Year 10
The course involves a detailed study of practical skills and their application in both functional and sculptural ceramic and found objects. The technical side of ceramics will involve the study of clay bodies, wheel work, decorative methods and firing processes. The sculptural component will involve carving, modelling casting and constructing clay with other materials, wood, wire, plaster, resin etc. Students should demonstrate an understanding of the most important overseas influences on the development of Australian ceramics.
VCE
The course provides experience using a range of clay bodies, glazes, and glaze techniques and aims to develop skills in hand building, wheel throwing and slip casting. Students respond to selected subject matter and are encouraged to develop imaginative and conceptual responses to the selected topics. Students develop their own personal style and connections between techniques, processes, and visual conventions in artwork. By the end of the course, students create a portfolio of work that displays their style, skills and creativity.
