Victoria’s senior secondary education is changing.
From 2023, the new VCE Vocational Major will replace Intermediate and Senior VCAL.
From 2023, more students will study the VCE. That is because the VCE will include the Vocational Major, a 2-year program that sits within the VCE. This means the VCE will recognise different students equally.
You may have already seen the awareness campaign on TV, Many Talents, One VCE promoting and explaining some of the changes.
The changes are a result of the Review into Vocational and Applied Learning Pathways in Senior Secondary Schooling (the Firth review). The review found the Department of Education needed to improve vocational learning in schools across the state. As a school currently offering VCAL, we will be moving to the VCE Vocational Major from 2023. Monbulk College is in a good position to make this change given the high standards of our current VCAL program.
Our current Intermediate VCAL students will move to the new VCE Vocational Major next year on successful completion of their studies this year. Ellen McDonald, the VCAL Team Leader has been working with these students to ensure they are aware of what they need to do this year to prepare.
Information about the VCE VM relevant to each senior year level will be provided in parent information sessions and videos during this term. Ellen McDonald, VCAL Team Leader, Glenn Rockelmann, Careers Manager, and Che Gittus, Job, Skills, Pathways Leader are available to answer questions and to support students as they make decisions about their final years at school.
