Monbulk College was established in 1962 and is a Year 7-12, co-educational college with an enrolment of 680 students. It is located 50km east of Melbourne in the heart of the Horticulture Industry.
Monbulk College provides a broad curriculum. In addition to offering a wide variety of VCE studies, the College offers the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (including School Based New Apprenticeships) and VET courses in Horticulture, Hospitality and Multimedia.
The College has a well-established transition program which involves the START and "Hit the Ground Running" programs. Information Communication Technology is used extensively in many of the College courses, there is an extensive Instrumental Classroom Music program, an ADVANCE program with emphasis on Lifesaving, Road Safety Education is incorporated into the curriculum and the College has a Sister School relationship with Ujiyamada Commercial High School in Ise-shi, Mieken, Japan and Schwerin Sports Gymnasium in Germany. Monbulk College has successfully participated in the annual National Schools Volleyball Competition, regularly being placed in the top ten schools.
Monbulk College is an active member of the Monbulk District Educational Community (MONDEC) Cluster Links and our links with the other schools are further supported through the Dandenong Ranges Network, our participation in the Network wide Innovation & Excellence Program and the Leading Schools Fund. Parents are regarded as active participants in their children's education and display a pride in the College as evidenced by involvement in College committees and activities and attendance at Working Bees. A very active Student Representative Council is responsible for promoting student issues and concerns.
In recent years the College has had building upgrades in its technology facilities (Wood, Food, Metal), renovated Art and Visual Communication rooms, 2 new general purpose maths rooms, shaded outdoor areas, a senior locker building, an upgrade to the General Office and general landscaping improvements. In addition, a Flexible Learning Centre was erected at the end of 2006, as part of the Leading Schools Fund.
